Dear R-Base List,
I am in the process of writing a major R:Base application for an industry
that I don't think is marketing the best products (or using the best
database). R:Base of course if my choice hands down. I have a
few questions some of you developers might know the answer to.
In a perfect world connecting to a main server is good from a remote
location, but we all know connections go down and cause operations to
cease. Is there a way to have a R:Base database local, but have it
sync up with the main database server when connections are there
automatically? In other words can any changes made on the
workstation be incorporated into the database server and likewise any
changes made of the database server be updated to the workstation should
a connection fail without a large amount of programming? I remember
from the 2003 developers conference that a pocket pc can be synced with
the main database but I'm not sure how that was done.
Also has anyone used Razzak's document imaging? If so is it an
application that can be integraged into an application such as the one
I'm developing or does it reside totally on the outside? I would
like my ap to have document imaging but there is no sense in re-inventing
the wheel in the one R:Base would integrate and works very good.
Does anyone know if I could purchase a copy of V-8 before I get to far
along with the project or is it totally in beta form? If so does
everyone like it or does it have a way to go before it will be on the
market? What does V-8 do better that I should wait to develop
certain segments of my project in that when it is available?
reports?
I'm becoming a big fan of Linux. Has anyone out there ran the
windows version of R:Base on Linux through something like WINE? I
don't think R:Base has released the native Linux version and it may not
be real soon. I would image that the combination of Linux and
R:Base would be a very stable and reliable product - but not free of
course.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
