PROJECT BUNDLE-UP ================= I want to thank everyone who contributed to Project Bundle-Up by bringing some very interesting items for the silent auction (thank you Angelo for the 25 Lb solid milk chocolate Santa!) and for those who bought the items. For those who weren't there, the Santa was cut into manageable chunks and bagged by the hotel staff before being sold by the bag. Donna reports that the final sub-total collected this past weekend was $1,810 when the conference ended. Collection continues until the end of this week for those of you still wishing to send in a check. Remember, all donations are matched by RBTI! It's such a great cause and near and dear to RBTI's heart.
Make your check payable to: PROJECT BUNDLE-UP and mail to: R:Base Technologies, Inc. 3935 Old William Penn Highway Murrysville, PA 15668-1854 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS ===================== This is NOT a comprehensive recap of the conference. I didn't take any notes so I'll leave the detail-telling to someone else... Best conference ever! My feet were cold on the way home -- no socks! What a treat to see the history of R:BASE as told in pictures by Wayne Erickson! Apparently, Microrim employees had a well developed sense of humor and a predilection for the three stooges!!! I can't wait to start using R:Mail 3.0. HTML embedded in email messages promises to WOW many. Talk about losing your socks. Rafee showed us how in the future we'll be able to publish any R:BASE form instantly to the web with R:Web Forms. The future is here! I understand a lot of folks (old folks?) remember R:Clout, the plain English query language that Wayne Erickson developed in the mid-eighties. Boy was he ahead of his time! Wayne wiped off years of dust to show it to us. Amazing! Like HAL in the movie "2001-A Space Odyssey"! He's thinking about updating it for the Windows platform. V9 is coming --buy more socks-- Unveiling at the 10th Year Anniversary (11th Conference) in 2008. John Minyo showed us how to speed our SELECTS and CURSORS and it's all contained in an FTE document: Gaining Speed With Programming. Doug Hamilton has my vote for the funniest presentation (reminded me of Aleksey's introduction to Microsoft's "Merlin" agent a few years ago). He showed us how to use sounds to jazz up buttons and uniquely communicate with the form's user such as hearing the names of the buttons instead of just reading them. FOOD ==== The hotel food was really disappointing this year and I'd like all who experienced problems to report them to Razzak by email so that he can share them with the hotel staff. It was wonderful to visit old friends and make new ones, catch up on news and learn new tricks. I wish I had the words to explain the importance of attending a conference for anyone serious about growing their R:BASE skills. All I know to say is DON'T miss the next one...
