Comments seem to indicate that Vista is still a work in progress. I'll probably stay with XP Pro. Vista is still troublesome in certain instances - missing drivers, strange hangups, etc. according to my contacts. One company I contracted to consistently recommended Dell computers. In the past I had my desktops built in a no name box so that I could spec the components, but I think my next desktop purchase will be a Dell. It's so much less hassle to say "Mr. Dell send me a 12345. Thanks!" and plug the thing in when it gets here. For notebooks I use only ThinkPads. I could not live without a trackpoint, and they are consistently as reliable as any other. My current work computer is a T60, dual core 1.83, 3 Gb RAM. It works for me, and for my photography.
