Thanks to all of you who gave suggestions about inserting into ACCESS
from RBASE.  Thanks especially to Sami for telling me it did work.  That
caused me to remember I had just inserted some items into ACCESS, but it
was via a DSN less connection.  I recreated that type of connection and,
eureka!, it worked! I am not sure why the regular ODBC connection does
not allow the insert operation.

INSERT SELECT ...  does work - I just tried it...

 

Jim -  check your rights in the Access database - can you insert a row
from within Access?

It's possible that R:Base will not allow the INSERT SELECT syntax across
different database types.  You may need to DECLARE CURSOR and then
create statements of the form INSERT VALUES for each record you want to
insert.
