In fact, that was the problem...the empid was in "Read-Only" mode. I
figured this out after running the form and trying to manually type in a
number...obviously, it wouldn't allow me to type in anything. That's when
I got suspicious. I added another empid object on the same form, ran the
form, and was able to manually type in a number. That's when I did some
investigation and stumbled across the "Read-Only" mode.

You mentioned below that the default is "Read-Only" in the Form Designer.
However, that wasn't the case for the second empid I added or for any of
the other DB edit objects which I added on that form. Perhaps, I'm
misunderstanding what you said about this.

Jay,

While in form designer, clicking on the [Run Form] or pressing [Ctrl+F9]
to preview, everything including any DB Edit or Variable Edit controls,
if placed, are also Read-Only. Typing anything will not actually update
or edit the database or variables.

I've been clicking on the square Run A Form icon at the very top...I'm
assuming this is what you are referring to in the Database Explorer
mode. I didn't realize there's a way to run the form from within the
Form Designer.

Using Database Explorer, selecting the "Forms" group and highlighting
the desired form, you may either click on the [Run] button or Right-click
and select Run Form.

Also, is there a way to preview the form without running the form ?

While in Form Designer, you may click on the Run Form [>] button to
preview the form. Run Form button is a part of the [Form] controls.

You may also preview the form (while in form designer) using the
Run Form option of the Main Menu | Form | Run Form

Hope that helps!
