----------------------------It has been a long struggle to solve my
difficulties with layouts but I have finally found the cause of the oddity:

I have two intentionally different ways of getting to the R:Prompt - one is by
selecting a user and password from a menu and the other is by directly from a
button. Both then run the same command file but one of them was not storing the
user name correctly to pass on. Hence the layouts when that method was used
were the default as I had only stored them from the direct login.

So, it had nothing to do with Vista or my accounts there and I can confirm that
layouts can be unloaded from one database and loaded back into another database
with the same table structure - which is nice for consistency.

Regards,
Alastair.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Re: Browser layouts: general queries

I guess that my long explanation hid the questions at the end so before I set
about deleting and re-creating all my layouts can anybody clarify for me please:

  Is it possible to unload/load from/to Sys_Layouts3?

Can the Sys_Data column be viewed and, if so, can it be edited, for instance,
to set the same widths for columns?

Does R:Base use the computer login or R:Base login name for the stored layout
data?

Finally, and just thinking out loud, R:Base clearly has some sort of default
for the column widths in the browser based, I presume, on the length of the
data and/or the column name. Is there any way to manipulate this outside of the
browser's Cell Size button? Maybe some sort of Property command could be
possible, eg: PROPERTY Browser [ColumnName] CellSize '50' or, maybe an
additional option added to the Data Designer?

  Thanks in advance,
  Regards,
  Alastair.
