----------------------------It has been a long struggle to solve my difficulties with layouts but I have finally found the cause of the oddity:
I have two intentionally different ways of getting to the R:Prompt - one is by selecting a user and password from a menu and the other is by directly from a button. Both then run the same command file but one of them was not storing the user name correctly to pass on. Hence the layouts when that method was used were the default as I had only stored them from the direct login. So, it had nothing to do with Vista or my accounts there and I can confirm that layouts can be unloaded from one database and loaded back into another database with the same table structure - which is nice for consistency.
