First, congrat's to your Rock-chalk, Jayhawks - just what does that actually mean and what is its derivation - as they did a great job. Yes, we know it could have gone either way, given all the what-if's and if-only's, especially on our side. In fact, over the waning weeks of the season as I watched more and more games, I had told my Indy-born-still-wishes-Bobby-Knight-were-at-IU, college-hoops-aficionado wife, "Carolina is who we wanna' play; we'll run them boys rag-ged!"
Unfortunately, although I had not followed KU as closely as some of the others - I, too, although a Tiger fan who condemned it, focused only on those traditional teams (UCLA, UNC, TX, etc) - I had concluded that KU matched up too well with us physically, liked-to/could_handle the up-tempo game, and probably had better depth and/or skills among their big men. I told my wife, "Kansas scares me. I don't think we wanna' play them." Then y'all did an even better job plastering those ACC boys then I think we would have. The rest, as they say, is history. If this is overkill, please pardon me, as I, like many of my Tiger-fan friends, including my wife, have deliberately avoided reading anything about the Championship Game, the hurt being so great. It was only the news of Rose departing and Evans arriving that roused me out of my mourning. On that note, yep', I 'spect that he'll be a one-and-done. I only hope that he's as much a team-baller as Rose, not to mention CDR, Tony, Joey, Robert, and most all the Tiger players. Selfishness rarely works well in a team-effort and even less so in this particular style of offense. (Truthfully, when D-Wash' and Shawne Williams left early, I was relieved, as D-Wash' seemed only to play team ball with skepticism and Williams only under strict coaching supervision and/or threat of punishment. Now, look at how those guys are doing and compare it to that year's senior and a team-baller, Rodney Carney, whose 76'ers have made the playoffs ... well, NBA playoffs are debateable, but that's for another time and I'm no expert on that topic; I just know enough to ask the dumb question, "Since when does 500-ball constitute a success?") However, with the signing of Evans, I figure CDR has more to factor into his own decision-making about next year. I also suspect that 2 as-yet-unsigned HS big men might be more easily persuaded to join the cause, now that the picture is clearer and the potential is (re-)building; we've signed 2, but they are apparently not so skilled at handling readin'/writin'/cipherin' (w/apologies to Jethro Bodine). I also think that Evans will be a 2/3 guard, but I could be wrong. We have a really good 1, Willie Kemp, but he hasn't seen many minutes, what with playin' behind Rose, and some of those minutes have been champ-to-chump inconsistent. Interestingly, he was apparently one of the main reasons Rose came, even though Kemp knew that, if Rose came, that Rose would start in front of him. Lastly, our guys ain't thugs/criminals. They're just college-age kids who are also "BMOC's". I think most of 'em are actually pretty decent folks, especially and including Joey Dorsey. He's a bit like Jessica Rabbit, "not really bad ... just drawn that way". We've had some bad dudes in the past and I'm afraid there might be more in the future, but that's pretty much true everywhere. My theory is that the rumors and hype about our never-graduated-but-advanced-to-maximum-security kids has been started, cultivated, and disseminated by fans (and even one player) of some of our rivals, possibly even at the other end of our state ... but, I know who signs my paycheck - it's part of my current email address - so I better end this with, I like orange okay, but I only wear it with blue. I, for one, am glad that Memphis could not make free throws when they really counted. My Jayhawks, on the other hand, did and they are now NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!...an out-of-this-world experience. Javier, P.S. Very nice get on Tyreke; do you think he is one and done? Since it came up last week, I thought I'd share this little item I just came across: http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/04/16/film.xfiles.title.ap/index. html. Say, doesn't the change in RBase file extensions to '*.RX?' seem more significant ... HEY, WAIT A MINUTE! Look at that string again, '*.RX?'; now, think about it. The truth is out there.
