Steve, Funny thing I am working on a form that I use a Temp View to display images in a Variable List View. And it works just fine.
In general the temp view is created in the OnBeforeStart eep. Then any PROPERTY commands are issued in the OnAfterStart eep. I am using a compiled version. Are you? Is your compiler current also? I get this error when I call a form whose temp view is created in its' On Before Start eep. And, it only appears when I call it from my application.
