I am a former R:base 5.5 for OS/2 user and am now working with R:base
7:6 for windows
I guess my memory is not as good as I had hoped, I am hopeful that
someone on this list can point me in the right direction
I am not afraid to read and learn so if anyone can point me to the
documentation for what I am trying to do the would be great!
I have 3 tables involved "Work_orders" & "Parts" & "Labour"
1) I am trying to get a form to update the "Work_orders" table as each
line item is inputed in either "Parts" or "Labour". I have a work order
form that allows me to punch in parts to the "Parts" table and labour to
the "Labour" table but I want the form to add the ongoing totals up into
the main "Work_orders" table. IE: the "Parts" table records the items
individual cost and the "Work_order" table records the sum of the parts
costs. I can't for the life of me remember how I used to do this, I wish
i still had my old books!!!
In enter mode I am adding rows that include the cost of individual parts
or labour into "Parts" or "Labour" at the same time I want the cost of
these items added to "Work_orders" on an accumulative manner ...... when
I hit [Enter] in the last column in "Parts" or "Labour" I want the form
to add the cost to "Parts" and also to add the cost of that part just
entered to the total in "Work_orders" so as I enter each part the total
in "Work_orders" grows to reflect the increasing totals ..... I can
then run a report showing me the totals of "Parts" and "Labour" using
the "Work_orders" table
2) I need to make a report based on the Work_orders table that will
tally up and list all the line items from the parts table and the labour
table. I can easily do it with just the parts or labour and have .......
but trying to get both in the same report has been very frustrating I
end up with massive amounts of duplicates ...... I have not done this in
the past as I have only had to deal with a single table as is in the
R:Base sample databases.
I use the "Work_order" table to store the cutomer number, work order
number, parts total costs, labour total costs ....etc etc ..... for the
work orders, the Parts and Labour tables records just that ..... Parts
and Labour linked to the "Work_order" table by the Work order number.
I need to create a report that will show all related Parts and Labour to
that work order number. I can do this easily with just Parts or Labour
but when I attempt to add both I get duplicates coming out my ears.
I am thinking it is just the placement of my breaks .... it seems that
breaks are nested, I need to list all the labour ..... based on the
break being the work order number and then run the parts next .....
breaking again on the work order number.
I may not be explaining this very well .... but my head is swimming and
I think the way I wrote this magnifies the fact. Looked through the
samples but they only show you how to pull items using a single table
and a break and I do get that! It's like I need to run the same break
twice but on different tables one after the other .... again I can't
find any help in the documentation and I know you must be able to do this.
Thanks
Mike
