If you want to have an even greater appreciation of what we have to work with today, go back and do some work in 6.5++. I had a need recently to work on a 6.5++ app. Mind you it was a great product back then and the application is rock solid. But working with pre-7 versions gives you a much greater appreciation of where we are now. Wowsers!
