Verify that the signal and power cables are properly connected to your new
CD-ROM, and that the device select jumper on the back panel of the CD-ROM is
correctly set for "master", "slave" or "cable select". Also make sure that
the motherboard's side of the signal cable is firmly connected to the
motherbaord.

If all connections are good and the CD-ROM is not defective, then CMOS will
"see" your CD-ROM and Windows XP will detect it as a valid device.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - [RBASE-7] OT: Lost Drive

This is off topic, but I'm sure someone in the R:Base community can
provide me with an answer.

I lost my CD-ROM/DVD drive over the weekend, and had to install a new one
(a H-P internal drive) today, but Windows XP Pro does not recognize it and
I cannot use the new drive. My drives now are A, C, and E. The CD-ROM
drive used to be D but it isn't there any more.

How can I get it back without reformatting the hard drive? Thanks!!!!!

Dick
