To all R:Basers -- and especially Stanley Loo, Javier Valencia, Doug
Hamilton, John Docherty, and John Minyo -- who responded to my earlier
question on this topic, THANK YOU! Each of you provided some helpful insight
for somebody who doesn't really like to poke around in a computer's
"innards."
I finally solved the problem today, and the computer again recognizes that I
have a CD-ROM/DVD drive. What was the problem? A stupid 1/2-cent part!!!!!
The jumper on the new drive was no good Just on a hunch I pulled the jumper
off of the old drive and put it on the new one . . . and, voila!, there it
was.
Whatever happened to "quality control"? But by playing a last-ditch hunch, I
saved myself from what I know would have been a healthy repair bill.
Thank you again for your suggestions. They helped! It's good to have the
R:Base "family" to provide help and encouragement.
