Bob,

I don't see any reason why this should not work.  If you don't
want a "carriage return, line feed" to be transmitted you might
want to use the syntax.
Write .varX CONTINUE.

Some where along the line the CONTINUE  syntax got dropped from
the v7.6 and v8.0 documentation.
