Having said that, I bet you are NOT using the latest updates of
R:BASE 7.6 for Windows (Build:7.6.4.30902), R:BASE Turbo V-8 for
Windows (Build:8.0.18.30902), or R:BASE eXtreme (Build:9.0.1.31017).
FWIW, the following "functions" are supported for VARCHAR data type:
01. SELECT (LISTOF(colname)) INTO varcharvariable INDIC ... FROM ...
02. (ITEMCNT('Text String'))
03. (SSUB(text,n))
