Hi Karen:

Most interesting.  
This  label is 7 labels high  by 2 columns wide.
In the top to bottom mode... column 1 prints  7 labels, column 2 prints 3
                                left to right mode prints  5 labels in each 
column
                                either way it prints 10 labels.  These are 
generic,
                                the data is not coming from the DB.

How strange.

  In the label designer, go to File, Page Setup, the "layout" tab.   There is a 
choice for "Column Traversal".      Rather than "top to bottom" you probably 
want "left to right"

    I have designed a label using standard sizing.

    The left column prints 8 labels, but both preview and printing on the right 
    column only prints 3.  Leaves the bottom 5 blank on the right column.

    I have no idea how to address (no pun intended) this problem.
