So if you open the editor in 7.6 or v8 and click on the file open icon, you get a directory listing?

Steve, Are you talking about 7.6 or 8.0 ? I have been using Rb7.6 (7.6.5.31125) it all morning with no issues in rbedit on a Vista Machine. You might need to re-apply or re-install.
