Razzak,

I know you have Vista on your laptop. I had heard that DOS
would not operate on Vista. So does 7.6 for DOS have any
operational challenges with Vista?

Jan,

Yes, I always enjoy having the latest technology notebooks
with the latest & greatest operating systems, just to make
sure that all of our R:BASE products are working A'OK, and
I have to test and see it myself.

R:BASE 7.6 for DOS works just fine on MS Windows Vista.

The only reason I have R:BASE 7.6 for DOS on my Sony Vaio
with MS Windows Vista Business, is to demonstrate how easy
it is to convert an R:BASE for DOS database, forms, reports,
labels, command files, and application to 7.6 for Windows,
Turbo V-8 for Windows and eventually to R:BASE eXtreme (v9)
when made available.

In reference to any operational challenges running R:BASE
7.6 for DOS on Vista, I have not encountered any. However,
I don't have any need nor am willing to experiment with DOS
functionality and compatibility of antiquated dot-matrix
printers.

I don't blame Microsoft for not supporting antique hardware
and peripherals. If a user decides to upgrade their hardware
and operating systems to the latest and greatest versions,
such as MS Vista, they also need to be aware and constantly
reminded to upgrade all associated peripherals, applications,
and development tools as well, and R:BASE for DOS is
certainly no exception. They need to move up to the Windows
version of R:BASE, or wait til the cows come home.

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.
