Further to Bill’s reply, is the user that is running the Windows version using a config file that differs somehow? What about settings like MANOPT, FASTLOCK, QUALCOLS, etc? What about the SCRATCH setting? If it is on, where does it point? Is that optimal? (Should be a local disk for best performance.)

Now what we're seeing: the same piece of code can be run in DOS and Windows. There are some "pause" messages that of course display differently but the code runs without error in both environments. The code run in DOS (through a batch file) runs TONS slower than directly from within Windows. Karen Karen, We make extensive use of batch (cmd) files that invoke R:BASE sessions and execute a piece of R:BASE code in batch, then exit. But there are *never* any forms involved, no user interaction of any kind. And I see no performance penalties running this way. There must be some other explanation …
