Hans,

I think Razzak has a presentation or article about this.
It's been a while since his presentation, so I don't want to steer you
wrong. I'll look for it on my conference USB drive, or more than
likely, Razzak will reply to you shortly. I think he's teaching a class
right now, or he would have responded already.

Thanks,
Adriana Montano

Subject: [RBASE-L] - RE: Turbo V8 - How to connect to MS SQL 2005
database?

That helped, nice to get help in Texas from Texas. I am working it from
the
DB Explorer display. I think I had an error in MS' File Data
Source/Machine
Data Source settings that I somehow was not setting correctly. I was
able
to use SDETACH to disconnect from having connected to the wrong
database.
  - You're welcome.

Can I delete tables from the MS SQL database by using RBase v.8? I want
to
make sure that I DON'T do that, but I do want to be able to update field
contents in that database.
- I'll look for Razzak's presentation, because it is a lot more
detailed, but I think that as long as you have Admin rights, you can
delete and update.

Is the table listed in my RBase tables window the MS table or a link to
it?
If I've detached the MS system from the RBase database, and then want to
detach the table, I get a "Error - xxxx is an undefined table. (2038)".
Does that mean it is already disconnected? How do I get it off my list
of
tables?
- If the Refresh List on the Tables tab doesn't do it, try SDETACH
command to remove a table and SDISCONNECT command to disconnect the
source.

Thanks,

Hans

Hans,

Welcome back to R:BASE! - and it's great that we have another
representative from Texas :-)

Try the HELP files and look up SCONNECT. Example 04 has how to attach
to a SQL Server database. Hopefully this will help you get started, but
don't hesitate to ask more questions if needed.

I am just starting back up with R:Base after a 15 year absence.
Upgraded to
v.8 for MS SQL database access.

I have admin rights to the MS SQL database. Can use MS Query to
connect.

I also appear to be able to connect with R:Base V8 because I appear to
be
able to connect a data source, need to use the proper user/pswd or an
error
message will happen.

But after that, I don't know how to access the MS tables in V8. Besides
'connect SQL data source' there are no other options able to select
(i.e.
attach SQL database tables'). For whatever reason, I cannot find
instructions in the help file to do this.

Could someone please share where I can find the documentation on how to
go
about connecting and using a MS SQL 2005 database with v.8?

Thanks,
