Paul, I am not clear on what the final fix was for this problem. Several
hours ago my V8 stopped working. When you start V8 nothing appears on the
screen but you can see RBG8EE running as a process in MS Task Manager. I
thought it had to do with McAfee but have eliminated that possibility by
removing it entirely from the system. I am seeing this same problem at some
of my accounts.

Please let me know what you did to resolve this issue.

John

"Follow-up"

This was after a complete unload and reload of the database. Also I would
add recent RRBYW14 & 15 over a 2 month period. Applied updates etc..
Compiled and not. RFF compiled and running by RRBYW14& 15 .dat files
compiled or not.

I tried on several other apps available to me and same results on those
selected computers. The only cure was new user. I could say coincidental
But, I have a hard time with saying that. It was 5 (as I recall) computers
out of 29 to 32 depending on the day/week that had the problem. You could
in theory have as many as you wanted (process's with different id's (pid's))
all day long.

In fact it was kind of easy checking by the time you strip it down and have
just two folders to check for dll's, exe's etc.. I also used a utility to
check running dll's during and after shutdown. These versions matched the
other laptops that would close properly and not hang. All configured the
same and searched for dup dll's and/or out dated files etc..

The utility I used to check versions, ports, keys, events, threads and MORE!
running is available on Microsoft's web site in a Tech area along with
other ways to check process's and calls also. I learned a lot, so I now
know a little more about the behind scenes. All I can say is more power to
Mike B and the whole R:BASE Dream Team I do not know how they do it.

Sincerely,

Paul Dewey

I wanted to mention Mike Byerley name. He gave me the tools (the direction)
and motivation to find the source and offered some really good advice and
check list. I reviewed Razzak's email and that led me to unload (I did find
other error's in the process, not releated). I then went to testing RRBYW's
and such. I really figured it was my database causing the problem. Oh one
more - when I compile a app it is good for one month. I compile one time
and distrubite that to all locations. Just copies of the first one, rather
simple process. 27+- times .. 4 times a pain.

"Follow-up"

I run some compiled apps and have not had this problem unless there is some
programming error that causes it to hang.

I would try tracing the uncompiled version. Maybe there is an error that the
compiled version is hiding.

"Follow-up"

Condition: Task Manager will show rbg76.exe or compiled app.exe still in
task manager even after "Closing" aka "Exiting R:BASE"

Cause: User! This is a Windows error/User.

Correction: Create a new user and switch to that user. Then delete the other
user.

Over the past months I have had 10% plus computer hang on to exe process's
and would not release the program. Over the past two months after creating
a "New Windows User" I have NOT had the same problem occur or come back and
haunt us. I have no way of telling anybody the reason. These are mixed
machines, most Dell's (not Dells fault either) some XP's and 2000 OS. Some
Symantec and other Norton 360 (different ver's of Symantec ) AVG or Zone
Alarm. I could not find any rhythm or reason, tried the registry edit and
searched it and more and just gave up.

I hope this better explains. Also I earlier mentioned I tried "RRBYW14 &
15" compiled and a mixed assortment of other R:BASE commands. They all also
hung - - compiled or not.

Sincerely,

Paul Dewey

I will triple check for duplicate files, perhaps something is lurking out
there somewhere.

I have done a unload/load routine, but not often. Rbase is very stable and I
do not seem

to have database data issues. Since this never has happened on regular
Rbase sessions, only

on compiled apps, I assume it is not data related. (But could be mistaken)

Creating new users is not really an option. I have 20 plus and this seems
to happen occasionaly

on all of them.

Perhaps an elusive file is out there that I have not spotted so far.

Thanks..
