In the past when using the import function in 6.5++, I had no problem
importing from excel files because I made the file a 4.0 EXCEL file and
told RBASE the specific rows I wanted to import. I now use 7.6 (latest
version) but RBASE does not seem to SEE the columns for what they are.
In other words, RBASE assumes some columns are dates (when they are not)
and other columns as numbers (when they are dates) and it brings in more
rows (that are empty) than I want imported. I have tried using both the
R prompt and the GATEWAY button and neither work properly.

I got this error when I just attempted to IMPORT using the following
SYNTAX: GATEWAY IMPORT xls G:\RBTI\C32309.xls APPEND DAILYTBL.

ERROR The file G:\RBTI\C32309.xls exists but is not a storage object.

Even when I use the GATEWAY button, the import is not proper. I just
tried and it changed normal numbers (I changed the format in EXCEL to a
text format) into a date within RBASE.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Jim
