Hi Razzak!
I am changing my RCompiled program forms from a VARCHAR DBMemo to a VARCHAR RTF format, due to client requests. They want to have the use of RTF formatting within the program-seems like a good thing to me too. I am developing a new form that uses the DBRichEdit control, which allows them to type, but not format the text without going to the RBBE (in this case using a double-click).
Here are my thoughts and reasons for this question:
1. Though I think BLOB is a cool word, the clients are put off by it. It would be helpful to have a property command to either change the caption to blank or perhaps to choose a different caption.
2. The icon is not the same as the rest of the screens' icons in the program, giving it an unfinished look.
3. Default Font PROPERTY command(s)-I think it would be good to be able to set the default font in the DBRichText object globally. In the compiled application, that would most likely have to be a PROPERTY command so that it can be made accessible to the client in the same way as other customization features in the application...through a customization form. 4. A property command to disable the "Load External File" and another to disable the "Save to External File" options would make the proper procedures more intuitive and less confusing to some clients.
5. If a "control panel" with font characteristics was available without going to RBBE, that would be another good idea.
One other thing- the look of RBBE is quite a bit different than the rest of my program (mostly Razzmatazz at this time), so the appearance of the editor is not in keeping with the "look" of the rest of the screens. The ability to customize the appearance of RBBE to match the other screens would be consistent with the rest of our ability to use PROPERTY commands to powerfully change the rest of our forms, reports, etc.
Razzak, none of these things is meant to say that RBBE is not WAY COOL! It works extremely well, looks great, and who could complain about the R: icon?? :) It is just in a compiled app, these characteristics of RBBE that I have mentioned do not blend into the look and feel of the rest of the compiled program. (This follows the same reasoning as the ability to change the graphic in the R:Updater...thanks again for that!)

Ted, FWIW, the R:BASE Blob Editor (RBBE) is an integral part and built-in cool tool of R:BASE itself. Furthermore, the R:BASE Blob Editor and RBBE command can ONLY be used and invoked from within R:BASE, R:BASE Compiler, or R:BASE Runtime.
