Thanks Gary,
        I just found that if I right click on a report field I can tick 
BLANKWHENZERO and that fixes my problem.  
        I checked out EQNULL a little.  The example show how the EQNULL 
setting will affect comparisons.  I wasn't having difficulty with the 
comparison, just 
getting the result to be NULL.  I tried setting EQNULL ON and running the 
report 
and it didn't seem to affect the result.
