 My test I had both STATICDB and FASTLOCK set to OFF.   So they evidently are 
not necessary.

But is it REQUIRED that staticdb and fastlock be on in order to use qualcols 
2?  Or just a suggestion?  Would you lose the benefit of 2 if you didn't not 
turn the others on?  Not sure how fastlock works, but you would have to 
disconnect the database if you were required to turn staticdb on and you 
normally have it off (I think only one of my clients has staticdb on).

Wow. This is an excellent and clear explanation of when and why one would 
change QUALCOLS. 

It would be an excellent addition to the docs, much better than the existing 
information.
