I just tried writing something using the chart that's in the link that Alastair provided. If I read the chart right, font size 6 is 8 pixels per characters, size 10 is 13 pixels. I used Arial size 10, and the widths that it gave me were way too big. Probably double in some cases what I really needed. This was using lower case letters; obviously all caps would have taken up more room and I didn't test the size with all caps. I knew it wouldn't be perfect, but was hoping for a closer approximation the next time I need to figure out how big to make a Text 80 show up.
