There are 2 things to look out for in a color printer, true speed for color
printing, and second costs of supplies.

There are a number of makers out there, but look carefully at the cost and
availability of consumables. A 4 color printer uses a toner or ink
cartridge for each color.

On older in jets the color ink was only in 1 cartridge which meant if you
used a lot of one color you had to replace all 3 anyway.

Newer laser printers do not do this, but some of the make 4 passes over the
paper, one for each color, slowing down the color speed to 1/4th of the
black and white.

I have learned from experience to check the costs of the toner refills and
factor that into the costs instead of just buying what looks good. Hard to
get toner can raise your cost per page much higher, where common units like
HP and others have a thriving market on refills and refurbished cartridges
as well as new from other vendors, dropping the costs per page way down.

Larry,

Personally I think you are going to have to wade through a bunch of
responses which will be more personal preference than anything.

That being said, we use a Ricoh MB3500 document center with good results. I
can print front to back from R:Base with this one.

I have worked at a client with 2 other color printers that I thought were
pretty good.
One was a Xerox Phasor which was darn near bullet proof. Uses a unique ink,
kind of like wax that burns onto the paper.
The other was a Xerox document center that I had great success directing
outputs to specific trays, collating, front and back.
Only option that R:Base doesn't have in the PRINT list is the OPTION STAPLE
command ( I have requested an enhancement
for V9 for this).

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Color printer recommendation

I've recently been asked for a recommendation for a color printer to use
with R:Base. Does anyone have any opinions they would like to share?
