When we convert 8.0 to 9.0,
8.0 has a database password,
when we type the password in, then 9.0 stops working.

When was the last time a database rebuild was performed,
where you UNLOAD the database into a file and run that
file?
This routine will display any structural and data issues
and will resolve any index problems.
