You were just lucky.. The dot has to be there otherwise it is just a literal string. Because you had it placed in an expression where a variable was expected, you were termporarily given forgiveness, but don't wear out your welcome. ;-)

In a calculation of date values a dot was missing (as in .#date) but the calculation was performed.
Is there a speed penalty  or what else might happen?
