I could not accept admin. I re-read (by a birdies recommendation-lol) the install.pdf and it is there. Page 47 of "RBASEeXtreme64forWindows_GettingStartedGuide.pdf"

Regedit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\R:Base Technologies\RBG90

Then "Right Click on the Folder name "RBG90" on the left panel and set permissions. You will most likely have to add the new user name.

Then try and IT WORKS! And the user is not a "Admin" which is a beautiful thing.

Paul,

User Access Control does not need to be disabled on the Windows Vista/7 operating system in order to run R:BASE 7.6, Turbo V-8, or eXtreme 9.0.

When R:BASE is initially installed, an Administrator needs to do so while logged on. Also while logged on, the User must be provided with the necessary permissions to run the R:BASE executable, and Read permissions to read the License Key in the registry.

If the executable folder permissions are not granted to the user, the user won't be able to run R:BASE. If the registry permissions are not granted to the user, they will be prompted for the License Key and Activation Key.

The above is similar to previous Windows operating systems, only now in Windows 7 if you enter the License Key and Activation Key while logged in as a user without permissions to read the registry values under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE location, Windows 7 will allow the values to be entered and saved into a HKEY_USERS "VirtualStore" location, like the following:

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2286013247-491101710-4097556544-1000\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\R:BASE Technologies]

The long number value is likely not the same for every Windows 7 installation.

R:BASE will read the Key and launch correctly whether the License Key and Activation Key are stored under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE location or the HKEY_USERS "VirtualStore" location.

Administrators can use their discretion on whether to supply rights under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE location, if the same computer will be accessed by multiple users, thus allowing them to add the Users to a Group and supply Read permissions to that Group, or to simply allow the License Key and Activation Key to be stored under the HKEY_USERS "VirtualStore" location if there will be only one person using the computer.

The down side we have seen to leaving the License Key and Activation Key under the HKEY_USERS "VirtualStore" location is that when any other user tries to use R:BASE, even an Administrator, they will have to enter a License Key and Activation Key. Because of this, R:BASE Technologies has always intended to place the software License Key under the LOCAL_MACHINE location in order to be available to all users on the computer.

And, although we have been unable to replicate it, we have received reports that the Activation Key entered initially by the User is different than the Activation Key accepted by the Administrator when switching from one method to the next.

So in an effort to minimize invalid Activation Key generation and additional Administrator work in the long term, we will continue to recommend that the permissions be supplied to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE "R:BASE Technologies" registry folder. And, based upon the User Access Control setting, Users will still be prompted (Cancel or Allow?) to launch the software.

Hope that helps!

John
