Dee, Sometimes it really means there are I/O problems, but it also often becomes a default error message, as if it is the last error message in the list, and R:BASE could come up with no other specific error message that applies.
Examine the database with AUTOCHK and/or R:SCOPE, and if there's no major damage, do a RELOAD of the database. If there are errors, like file size or "out of range" errors, you can also try a reload, but keep a copy of the damaged database to work over with R:SCOPE if you end up with lost data that cannot just be reentered easily.
