No, Paul, there is no error report if the help says ". must start with an
alpha character ..." That means to me that a column name cannot start with
a number. It didn't show up as an error, however, until I tried to use it
in code - CREATE TABLE did not complain.

>From 9.0 Help:

'Valid names must start with an alpha character and can include the
following symbols: Letters (A-Z); Numbers (0-9); # (pound sign); _
(underscore); $ (dollar sign); % (percent sign). Spaces are NOT permitted.
Also, for ODBC <ms-its:RBG90.chm::/odbc_glossary.htm> compliance, it is not
recommended to use the # (pound sign) symbol in a column name even though
R:BASE permits it.'

I get a RDCC report from testing Emmitt's issue. A first for me <gig>.

Table and column names can be a maximum of 18 characters and must begin with
an upper- or lowercase letter.

Names can contain letters, numbers, and the following special characters: #,
$, _, and %. R:BASE verifies that a table or column name is unique by
reading all 18 characters.

Is there an issue using column names that begin with numbers?

e.g:

204lastsent

204ver

220recd

220ver

Thanks in advance.
