I have performed similar tests and discovered that, when the .RX3 file properties are scrutinized, exactly 2.0 gb file size is reported. I don't believe this to be a coincidence.

I execute this command: alter table history alter column tranamt real The rows update successfully. Rows then start collecting for Index Creation. Feedback doesn't show which index is being created.
