The answer from Avery support is that DesignPro 5.5 does not work properly with 64-bit Windows (neither Vista nor Win 7). They have no plans to fix this, and instead are pushing their cloud-based label creation service.
There is no mention of the 64-bit problem in the DesignPro system requirements posted on avery.com, and the program appears to install and run OK.
