I have at times used Aqua as a field colour to hint that it will pop up
a menu when double clicked and yellow to indicate a looked up value.
Mousers prefer to double click than press a key combination. The other
thing I have done in the DOS environment is to map [F3] = [Shift][F3]
which has the nice side effect of preventing the great unwashed from
seeing the database file system as well as removing the need to press
two keys.

Also, if the user doesn't like the keyboard shortcut, can't they just
double-click in the db edit to bring up the pop up menu?

Sadly, if there's no visual clue to click, they don't seem to be able
to get the menu. I tried changing the caption for the fields with
menus to colored or bolded text, but that wasn't enough to remind
people to SHIFT-F3 to get the menu.
We live in a degenerate age, I guess.
