Dan: IMNSHO, the BACKUP is the servant of the RESTORE. When everything is go-to-hell, it's too late to discover that you don't have the tools and freedom-of-motion you need to restore lost or damaged data and structures.
The Symantec (Veritas) product reflects a mature heritage coinciding with that of R:Base, well back into the mid-1980's. It, and its predecessors have proven bullet-proof over the years. You will make back the cost the first time you really need it.
