Dick,

Files on CD are read-only. R:BASE cannot open a read-only .RB1 - it has to
be able to write to the .RB1 at a minimum.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - [RBASE-L] Archiving Question

I have two databases -- in R:Base 7.6EE -- which are no longer in service
but which I want to archive onto a CD-ROM for historical reference (as well
as to eventually get them off my hard drive).

I have burned the CD-ROM, but whenever I try to open the databases from the
CD-ROM by clicking on either the *.RB1 or the *.dat files, I get the
message: "The database is currently open with MULTI set OFF <OK>" and, after
clicking <OK> I get this message "-ERROR - Unable to connect database ( 7)
<OK>" Clicking on that second <OK> loops me back to the first message.

But when I use the <SHOW> command on the archived databases, it reports
"(MULTI) ON".

This does not happen when I burn the databases to a flash drive; both open
fine from there (and archiving them on a flash drive may be the alternative
that I will choose -- and hope that I don't lose the drive <G>.

What can/should I do to be able to access the databases from the CD-ROM. The
reason I want to archive them is because I may need to go back into them to
review some data which they contain, and also because there is some code in
one which I may want to adapt for another database which I may develop in
the future.

Thanks!
