Thanks for the hint, Dawn! Unfortuantely this is the last field in the form, and the next field is a Bit Button. So I located a dummy variable edit field, located it behind my field, and put the code on entry into that field and now it works. If they type something in a field and then click into some other random field it of course won't update, but I'm sure this will catch most of the instances.
