Oh sorry, Doug, I didn't read that you're summing variables not columns.  
And yes I always assume that "preview" means from within the designer, but I 
think it's correct to use it in the way you are.    

I honestly can't remember the difference between "before preview" and 
"before generate".  I think I've always done Before Generate.  It would be nice 
if someone could explain to me what the difference is.    But in your case I 
would make sure to initialize your summing variable to 0 in the "before 
generate" eep.
