Take a look at the "Columnar Report" option to achieve your goal. This cool
feature allows you to define all bands, headers, footers, breaks, and most
importantly the ability to define any Number of Columns, Column Width,
Column Positions, Column Traversal (Top to Bottom or Left to Right), and
Row Spacing.

To explore this option:

Report Designer | Main Menu | File | Page Setup | Layout ...

(RRBYW14 - RRBYW17) illustrates the use of such feature in R:BASE.
