Jennifer, In my vertical applications I use the technique similar to the one Karen described. In my case, the business owner is able to control access down to the sub-menu level for every employee. The owners really like the feature because it is so easy to use and they can temporarily give access to a menu item to someone for a special project. In the background, it is all controlled with the property commands.
If you, or anyone else, would like to see the process in operation and discuss the underlying code, let me know and I will setup a Webinar. It is not complicated and it is easy to implement. Hello, I have a form with a scrolling region displaying items listed by department. I want the users to be able to see all the items but only approve/edit those items that are listed with their department number. I have the security set up so that the application will know who the user is and their department - but how do I prevent them from approving or updating items that aren't in their department? Should I use a before update trigger or a rule, or would there be a better way to handle this?
