I can parse the name and replace (using SRPL) a single & with && and
that makes this work, but this seems like a bug to me.

Uncheck the option for [ ] Show Accelerator Character.
Here's how:
While in Form Designer:
Variable Label Properties | Effects | Text Style
Notice the option for [ ] Show Accelerator Character.
The default is always set to checked.
That's all there is to it!
