Looking at a copy/paste version of a treeview, I would say that option would 
not work.
It is not a simple container like a form or a panel.

I've thought of a much simpler way to achieve my goal.

In addition to the PROPERTY commands, look at CREATEOBJECT and DELETEOBJECT. 
That may give you some more direct program control over your TreeView.

I tried using a menu bar but menus don't "stick'
