    Thanks.  I could not convert the column to text because some of the entries were lengthy.  I ended up making an ODBC connection from Access to R:Base and exporting from Access.

Another possibility could be – if the length of the content is less than 1500 characters – to convert the field to a text column.

    I need to export a table to an XML file.  The table contains a NOTE field.  The resulting XML files has what appears to be the NOTE field as Base64 encoded data.  is there any way to export a NOTE filed to XML as raw text?
