Tom:  I'm not sure what it is about VPNs that some people claim
they are able to get work done with them..   I'm in the camp where I can
NOT get work done on them.  2 of my clients have VPNs for me to do
remote work and it's pretty much impossible.  An "update" command that
might take 2 seconds while connected onsite on the network could honestly
take about 3 minutes connected thru a VPN.  Imagine trying to run a program
with hundreds of lines of code...   One Chicago IT consultant that I 
subcontract
RBase work thru refuses to install VPNs on his customers that have 
client-based
databases (like RBase or Access) installed.  He considers the risk of 
corruption 
too great.   I wish those 2 clients of mine felt the same way!
