Having said that much, I also have used "only" Intel processors and Intel mainboards. The distinction with the mainboards was not just mainboard with Intel chipset, but actual Intel branded boards. I paid close attention to memory chips too. I usually buy the memory chips from "BuyMemory.com" which used to be McDonalds and Associates for years. The reason for that is too lengthy, but the short version is the people there can give you a fair opinion on which memory pcboards are having the lowest return rates. I have had nil hardware failures, save two hardrives in all the machines in the past fifteen years or so. I still have my creaking NT4 workstation that I fire up once and a while back in the electronics room, to access old software still installed on it. I have never skimped on hardware that I had to depend on to run day in and out 24/7.
