Try to put one of the databases in a separate folder and test it. You will notice a big difference!

I do have multiple databases in the same folder. I have gigabit nics with 15k rpm RAID level 5 harddrives on an 8 core windows 2008 box which hosts the database files and the application files. I found the same problem when using the database explorer connected to a network folder. My compiled apps using the connect and disconnect commands work fast but using the database explorer is laggy at best. From my experience, it is something to do with multiple databases in the same folder. I reported it to RBTI but they could not replicate it. I found a workaround by using shortcuts with dat files that open the database connection. If you do not have multiple databases in the same folder you might check your anti-virus, network speed, etc. Dan From: Michael J. Even more suprising to me is that it takes longer to disconnect than to connect. In a single user environment, the connect and disconnect happen almost instantly. The difference gets better if the 4 database files are in a folder with no other files (that was a tip from John Minyo). Is there anything else I can do to speed up connect and disconnect? Mike
