Actually, it is the disconnect which is slow.

Connecting to my heavily used network database takes about 1 second on all my
tests, regardless of what directory I am in when I connect.
Disconnecting is almost instantaneous.

BUT, if I change to the directory where the db and several others reside, the
disconnect time is more than 5 seconds!!!!!!
If I change to a different directory before trying the disconnect , it happens
instantly.
I have no explanation for why this happens, but it certainly might offer some
blues clues.

Just to let you know on my connection speed. I connect to my database in 2-3
seconds consistently with other users connected to the same database.

Rbase database:
1. On a shared drive
2. Rbase 9.5 64
3. Database Size – A little over a gig.
4. Files in the directory – 70 currently

PC/Network specs:
My Pc: Windows 7 pro – i5 processor – 4gb memory (purchased last november)
Switched Gigabit network throughout
Server – Windows 2003 Server
Anti-virus with exceptions to ignore rbase database files

If you have the database on a server, I will tell you that network performance
is the key!
100mb is good but it is worth it to upgrade to gigabit.

Don't have an answer.. With my latest 9.5 client we wanted to go to
an external file as the startup, and do a connect/disconnect at every
menu to avoid hung connections at backup time. But it takes so long
to do each command (probably 10 seconds) that we were asked to
drop it. We have just the 4 DB files, 1 startup program and the 1 EFF
in our testing environment. So it wasn't the number of files. On a
standalone environment, it still took probably 7 seconds, so a little
better but still pretty slow.

Hi All,
What can I do to speed up the time it takes for Rbase 9.5 32 to complete a
connect, or disconnect or sconnect command?
I have the number of files in the database directory down to 8 including the 4
.rb? files. The database is pretty big, the .rb2 file is about 1.8 gig.
When I trace my code looking for speed enhancements, it seems that the slowest
commands are connect, sconnect and disconnect.
How long should those commands take to complete? I guess I am used Rbase for
DOS where the times are nearly instant.
TIA.
Mike
