Unless I read in incorrectly, Wikipedia (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address ) synopsis of RFC 5322 section
3.2.3 doesn't allow the use of special characters in an email address
_unless_ "surrounded" by quotes and I take that to mean your example:

Brutus P Thornapple/SomeISP

Would have to be
Brutus" "P" "Thornapple/SomeISP

But further in the Wiki, will be the commentary that "most" organizations
disallow the use of special characters in email addresses, exception hyphen,
underscore and dot.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - R:Mail questions

: Good afternoon:
:
: I have 2 questions regarding R:MAIL 2.6:
:
: 1: How can I get R:MAIL to accommodate e-mail addresses with embedded
: spaces. For example a Lotus Notes client e-mail address might be: Brutus
: P Thornapple/SomeISP
:
: I have tried enclosing the e-mail address in single quotes but R:MAIL is
: only reading up to the first space for the address.
:
: 2: Am I reading the Help file correctly when it shows "To:
: address, address, address" to indicate that I can string together multiple
: e-mail addresses in one variable and send them all out at once?
:
: Thanks for any guidance that can be provided.
