I use dsn-less connections. Then I can do a search and replace when new versions come out.
It saves having to update every machine. I am upgrading to eXtreme from Turbo V-8 on my new computer and have almost 5 dozen current and archival databases that I need to create ODBC sources for. Re-creating these will be tedious and a bit time-consuming. I considered 1) unloading the ODBC hive from the registry to a .REG file and 2) do a search and replace for the appropriate DLL and 3) reloading the registry hive from the modified .REG file. Is that a good approach? Anyone have any better ideas? Could a VB script be written to do this? One that could be re-used for future upgrades? Suggestions will be immensely appreciated. Thanks.
