I think this property is what you are looking for.

PROPERTY <Component ID> SELECTEDINDEX 'Value'

0 is the first column.

In 9.5 they have added a feature to not tab stop on read only columns.

I don't spend much time with DB Grids but I think it might work for a case that 
I'm working with.
I only want 2 of the columns editable but would like on row entry for the 1st 
column to be edited
to be selected.

I know I can do it with a property command, but I was just trying to figure out 
if there was a setting in the grid controls to do that.
